WATER, SANITATION, AND HYGIENE (WASH) INITIATIVE

WASH is more than infrastructure—it’s a catalyst for health, education, gender equality, and economic opportunity. Through our WASH Initiative, AAGF is committed to building cleaner, safer, and more dignified communities, where everyone has access to the water, sanitation, and hygiene services they deserve

Key Focus Area

School Wash Programs

  • Install handwashing stations and latrines in schools
  • Train students as hygiene ambassadors
  • Promote menstrual hygiene management (MHM) to reduce absenteeism among girls

Community Empowment

  • Form and train Water User Committees for sustainability
  • Engage traditional leaders, women’s groups,
    and youth in planning and monitoring
  • Facilitate inclusive WASH services for people
    with disabilities

Emergency WASH

  • Provide life-saving water and hygiene support in times of crisis (e.g. floods, displacement)
  • Distribute emergency WASH kits and build temporary facilities in shelters and camps

    child survival rates

  • Enhance school attendance, especially for
    girls during menstruation

  • Empower communities to maintain and
    manage their own WASH resources

Our Objectives

  • Provide safe, sustainable access to clean water

  • Develop and rehabilitate boreholes, wells, and
    water harvesting systems

  • Ensure water points are within safe walking
    distance, especially for women and children

  • Promote water treatment and storage
    techniques at the household level

  • Improve sanitation infrastructure and
    practices

  • Construct gender-sensitive, child-friendly
    latrines in schools and communities
    Promote community-led total sanitation
    (CLTS) to eliminate open defecation

  • Support waste management systems and
    environmental cleanliness

  • Promote hygiene education and behavior
    change

  • Conduct awareness campaigns on
    handwashing, menstrual hygiene, and
    disease prevention

  • Distribute hygiene kits including soap, sanitary
    pads, and cleaning materials

  • Train health clubs, teachers, and peer
    educators to promote lasting behavior
    change
